Celebrating Rick Hoyt: A Beacon of Inspiration and Unity

Team Hoyt is father Dick Hoyt and son Rick Hoyt who competed in numerous marathons and triathlons with the father pulling and pushing his quadriplegic son in a wheelchair.

Dear Athletes,

I am Steven Herron, the founder of Herron. and today I am both somber and joyous. I am somber at the passing of Rick Hoyt, and joyous in honoring his life and legacy. Rick was a truly exceptional individual who left an indelible mark on the world and me, personally. I met Team Hoyt at Timberman 70.3, now defunct, in New Hampshire. They had a booth at packet picket selling and signing copies of his book. I saw them again during the race as I was struggling up the final hill of the 13.1 mile run when I saw Dick, pushing Rick in his cart up the other side of the hill. The sheer joy in Rick’s face combined with the determination and effort by Dick was enough to induce tears and choking in my throat. It is a moment I cherish.

At Herron, we believe in celebrating extraordinary individuals who inspire us to reach new heights and break barriers. Rick Hoyt, along with his father Dick, epitomized the spirit of determination, resilience, and inclusivity. Although this blog post may deviate from our typical content, it is essential for us to pay homage to Team Hoyt—an embodiment of strength and unity. Join us as we reflect on Rick's remarkable journey and the profound impact he had on the world of sports and beyond.

Throughout their awe-inspiring career, Dick pushed Rick in a specialized wheelchair through marathons, triathlons, and even Ironman competitions. Their bond transcended the physical realm, as their united spirit propelled them to conquer seemingly insurmountable challenges. The world watched in awe as they shattered barriers and showcased the limitless potential that lies within us all. Rick's radiant smile and unyielding spirit touched the hearts of everyone they encountered.
